Hello People. Welcome back to Akshaya's Blogging World. Today I came up with an energetic food post, yes let us know some interesting facts about TEA, which we take in our daily life. In fact, some of us start our day with a cup of Tea.
Fact no. 1: Ever wondered about the full form of TEA...? Most of us don't know that TEA stands for "Total and Essential Alcohol" and "Taste and Energy Admitted".
Fact no. 2:
Origin of Tea- In Early centuries, people used to chew tea leaves for medicinal purposes. But the liquid form of tea began in 2737 B.C.E when the Emperor Shennong, a skilled ruler and scientist, accidentally discovered tea.
While boiling water in his garden, some leaves from an overhanging wild tree fell into the pot. The Emperor really enjoyed drinking this leaves infused water which made him to research about the tree further. He discovered tea's medicinal properties during his research.
Fact no. 3:
Tea in India- During British rule, British introduced tea production as well as tea consumption in India, in order to compete with the Chinese monopoly on tea.
Fact no. 4:
Father of Tea- Lu Yu is considered to be the father of tea because of his book "The Classic of Tea" in Chinese History.
Fact no. 5: Darjeeling is known as the "Champagne of Tea"- as like Champagne, it all comes from one specific region. In fact, anyone selling Tea in Darjeeling must first get a license from the Tea Board of India. Because, tea production in Darjeeling is special, it varies according to seasons termed as first flush and second flush. To know more about Darjeeling Tea, Click Here.
Fact no. 6: Tea was so expensive in the 18th century that it was kept in a locked chest, which is now called as Tea Caddy.
Fact no. 7: We have different type of teas like black tea, oolong tea, green tea and white tea. They all come from the same plant 'Camelia Sinesis', the difference is that they are treated separately after harvest.
Fact no. 8:
'Green Tea - A Super Food' - Green tea helps to soothe sore throat, regulate blood sugar levels, reduce risk of heart disease. It also shows positive results in weight loss, preventing tooth decay and alleviating depression.
Fact no. 9:
Records of Tea- The largest teabag recorded by Guinness World Records weighed over 551 pounds, measured 9.8 feet wide by 13 feet high. It could be used to brew over 1 lakh cups. Ahmed Mohamed Saleh Baeshen & Co., owner of Rabea Tea in Saudi Arabia, set this record in 2014.
Other world record of Tea is 'Largest Cup' which is of 10 feet tall by 8 feet wide.
Fact no. 10: Apart from brewing, Tea leaves/powder is used for other purposes like rubbing leaves on skin in order to keep mosquitoes away, cleaning floors, natural dyeing of cloth, marinating meat and helping to patch up tiny nicks from shaving.
